Mission Hotel (Bakersfield California)

Shot with a Canon R100 and an EF 28-135 IS zoom via a genuine Canon RF converter.

This is located in Bakersfield's "skid row" area downtown that used to be bigger, but redevelopment money has been poured into the downtown area to encourage gentrification. The Mission Hotel could very well be past the point where it could be renovated. If that's so, it's likely to suddenly burn to the ground--the homeless will be blamed --and the insurance money plowed into a new thing. Bakersfield has had many "mysterious" fires so much so that the locals expect them in derelict buildings. Better photograph them while I can.

Hi LeeP,

My brother lives in Shafter.  He's in the Oil business.  If you visit there again, the Padre Hotel has one of the best tomahawk steaks I've ever had.  🥩

I equate Bakersfield with Buck Owens. Aside, there is much history in our country. I found this to be true in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Mexico.

Buck Owens is largely the stereotype of Bakersfield. He's iconic and important yes, but the history of the area is much more than  just him.

Probably is. It's not really anything that special. Yeah there is memorabilia but that could go to the Kern County Museum. As a restaurant it is OK, but the new casino south of town will gut the Crystal Palace as a true event space.
