While hiking on the Russian Ridge Trail looking for some raptors to shoot at, I spotted this scenic view which I decided was worthwhile shooting. I wanted to test the RF200-800mm lens to see how it handled, handheld landscape photography. I'm a happy camper because I did not see any raptors close enough to shoot but I did take this scenic shot.

Hello,
It sounds like you had a great time hiking and testing out your new gear! The foggy mountain shot must have been an impressive sight, and it's awesome that you were able to capture it with your RF200-800mm lens. It's true that handheld landscape photography with such a long lens can be challenging, but it seems like you found the right combination of settings to make it work!
The quotes from Ansel Adams you included are fantastic too, emphasizing the importance of vision and intention in photography. If you'd like, I can help with further photography tips or editing advice on your image.
Best Regards

Where is this? We have similar views with the Southern Appalachians. Good idea to give a general location when posting photos.

Hi John,
The location is in Northern California in the San Francisco Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. It's part of the Russian Ridge Preserve. "Perched atop the windward western side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Russian Ridge appears much like the other preserves from the road. But beyond the drive-by sights lie spellbinding views and a grove of monumental, centuries-old oaks." Not to mention 360° views of the SF Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. You can see both just by turning 180°. Lots of wild life, such as mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, deer etc. If you look up in the sky you will see Brown Eagles, Red Tail Hawks, Red-sholder Hawks. Cooper Hawks, and 100 other bird species. Great place to go hiking, Mountain biking, and for nature/wildlife photography. In the spring you see "Fields of Wild Flowers" carpeting meadows.
