This is NOT NOT NOT a brilliant photograph, but it is an example of seeing something, finding it interesting, snapping a shot with the intent to return and do it right.
This was shot with my R8 and the Canon "el cheapo" 75-300 RF zoom @300mm. I was literally stopped in traffic. I saw it and put it into my "sketchbook". I think it's perfectly OK to take snapshots of things we want to shoot and come back another time.
The problem with shooting this is that it is high up on a facade of what used to be a bank and for the foreseeable future will be drenched in glaring California sun. My plan is to get it nearer dawn or nearer dusk.
I will easily be able to get a far better vantage point when I return. The curious thing is that I may as well shoot in monochrome because there really isn't much color on the bird to capture.
I may throw my EF 85mm lens on the R100 and keep the R8 with the 75-300, though I could 480mm (effectively) by throwing the zoom on the R100. We'll see.

I often travel with a camera in the car, but not handy enough to snap a pic. I suppose I should change that. I wonder how many others carry their cameras "at the ready" at all times here. I just had to snag this cloud formation with my phone. Google says it's a lenticular cloud.

That is an interesting photo. I'm impressed with the idea of returning under more favorable light conditions and taking additional photos. Please post them, too.

I usually head out with my R100 so that I can grab a shot on the fly. This particular day I was forcing myself to use the 75-300--because I hadn't used it in a while--and was fortunate to be able to crank it to 300mm. Because I like doing street and urban photography, having a camera handy is a good thing.

I grabbed a quick shot today from the vantage point I plan to use. I will probably put the 75-300 zoom on my R100 instead of the R8 because that would give me effectively a 480mm lens. The statue itself is very weathered and needs to be restored. There is color there but it's so sun bleached.
