Hi JPS,

Nice sharp and clear shot !  Timing and location is what it takes to make a nice photo.  Not a cloud would enter my thoughts while looking at this shot.  😊

Cheers,

Wow, that is stunning. Joe is right - the timing and location really paid off here! There's something so moody about a Blood Moon that never gets old. Thanks for sharing this, it definitely makes me want to get my gear out for the next clear night.

Looks like you practiced a bit since our convo back in 2024!  Great shot!  I was all set, but there was no break in our cloud cover.

I'm curious about your lens and settings for that one.  I've gotten the RF 200-800 that I was hoping to use, and had it set up on a Move Shoot Move tracker.  Was gonna try using the intervalometer at about ISO 500, at 800mm and some multi-second shots.  Had it all set up on the tripod - all dressed up and nowhere to go 🙂

@Signif Digits, Camera was an R5, Lens was an RF100-500, settings were: Focal length was 500mm, SS 1 second coupled with some Exposure Compensation (3 shots, 1 shot 2 stops under-exposed, 1 shot correctly exposed, 1 shot 2 stops overexposed), shots were merged in LrC, F7.1 and ISO1600.  Tripod with a Sirui PH-10 gimbal head, wireless remote (BR-E1), and some coffee to stay awake at 3:30AM.

Glad you got up and had good weather for it.  Great job!  I'll have to wait until December 2027 for the next one.  The star tracker doesn't run at the same speed as the moon but seems good for about 10 seconds if I get it aligned with Polaris.  I was anxious to try it out.  Probably not anxious enough to put it all back together and stack ND filters and try it until I get closer to the next one.  Or maybe the next nice spring astro night when there is a sliver of a crescent moon I can break away from the milky way to give it a try.  I enjoy taking astro pics and stacking them from time to time.  I shot Jupiter hand-held and cropped and felt like I was looking an an image similar to what Galileo saw when he proved Copernicus theory to be correct via the 4 Jupiter moons he could see (aka Galilean moons).  Shooting the galaxy is fun, including the moon!

Thanks for staying up and for sharing!
