PIXMA MX492 macbook air 2024 will not recognize scanner, prints ok

Hi All,

My MX492 prints fine with my (new to me) MacBook air 2024. Installed the updated drivers for the printer and scanner--to no avail. Spoke to Mac Sr Advisor at length -- still the computer does not find the scanner.

Any suggestions? This is very frustrating.

Thank you!

Correction to above post:  it's the MX492.  Canon error codes are 0, 15, 156

Try downloading the ICA driver from the Canon Support site for macOS 14.

Should I delete the IJ Scan Utility from applications first? Apple Support sometimes suggests this before installing new drivers.

Thank you for responding!

I’m not sure that’s necessary. The driver should be separate from the app.

So helpful & responsive! By the way, are you and mr. hoffman (on Apple Community) one and the same????

No. Not me.

jrhoffman,

I downloaded the ica driver, as instructed & installed it. Here is the file name:

misd-mac-ijscanner15s-5_0_0-ea21_3.dmg

But it is not in my applications folder. I did indicate the MacBook air OS as 14 sonoma.

Thoughts?

Hi. Sorry to be late in answering.

It's a driver, so it won't show up in the Applications folder.

Try scanning and see if it works. If not it may not be compatible with Sequoia.

Give Canon support s call at 1-800-OK-Canon and see what they say. First you need to register your product if you haven't already.

If canon says it is not compatible one option would be the paid software VueScan by Hamrick Software.

Thank you for a new solution.

Actually, I finally got it fixed-I checked my husband's scan interface on his computer, which really helped. I figured out the scan name that needed to be entered on the 'add a printer' option.

Turns out this allowed the AirPrint version to populate the correct scan file, which then confirmed the correct driver. So it works! And it's better...on my mba 2015, I had to manually enable scan (from the printer), now I can scan right from my computer. I also fixed the printer settings to enabled the 'doc feeder' and preferred folder for saving.

Anyway, thanks so much for helping me!
