I am looking to buy a canon image scanner to scan a boat load of pictures.
I have a Imac desktop computer with the high sierra version 10.13.6
will the canon RS40 work with this version
I can no longer upgrade my system

Greetings,
The ImageFormula RS40 is not certified for Mac OS HighSierra v10.13. Its supported on Catalina v10.15 and later versions of MAC OS.

That said, if it supported by Vuescan you can probably get it to work.
