LIDE 120 scanner will not work with the ARM processor MS Surface Windows 11

I have been informed by Canon that my LIDE 120 scanner will not work with the ARM processor. Until changing to the latest MS Surface with that processor, I never realised that the processor was relevant. When I saw Windows 11 driver, I thought that was the end of the matter...stupid me. I have also found some programmes reject the ARM, although in one case, when I squeaked, the refund was immediate. I made the mistake of thinking that buying a MS Surface (my third) and Windows 11 would ensure compatibility with everything I had but not so. I had to buy a Brother single sheet scanner for portability, which optionally scans on to SD card, whence one can transfer to the PC. I already had a Brother multi-function device, and that worked without problem. Having moaned about all that, I still love the MS Surface.

The CanoScan LiDE 120 is compatible with a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer that uses an ARM processor.

When you connect your scanner to your computer, does your scanner appear in Device Manager?

To view Device Manager, please press the Windows key on your keyboard and the letter X, then let both go.

In the menu that appears, click on Device Manager.

Ran into this exact wall a few months back when I switched my old office setup to a Surface Pro with the ARM chip. My LIDE 120 just sat there, drivers refused to install, Canon support pointed to compatibility limits with ARM64 Windows 11 builds. Spent a weekend trying workarounds, compatibility mode, even an emulator layer, nothing stuck. Ended up asking around in a small business forum and someone suggested checking BulkDevices Scanners for hardware that lists native ARM support before buying instead of hoping drivers catch up later. Saved me another failed purchase. If you are stuck like I was, checking compatibility lists first is worth the extra ten minutes before ordering anything new.
