Canon site says no drivers for this Mac operating system. Will Canon come out with some? Is the scanner junk? It sure is a nice one.

Hi Ticketman,
The CanoScan 5600F is not supported with macOS v12 (Monterey). There are no plans for provide drivers for use with this OS. You may try using VueScan by Hamrick. Also, you are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Monday through Saturday, 9am to 9pm. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

This is absolutely absurd that there are no software driver updates for MacOS Monterey for a perfectly good scanner and why should we have to pay £90 to get a Film/Slide Scanner working again. Canon needs to provide a solution to a perfectly good scanner that people have already paid good money for. Disgrace asking people to pay more or buy a new scanner and throw this perfectly good one in the bin, the world is a mess as it is throwning good stuff away!!!!!!

To be fair, this is 10+ year old hardware. It cannot be supported forever. Apple doesn't let you install their latest OS on 10yr old hardware. Is that a disgrace as well?

must say i disagree! and why not keep supporting a perfectly good working scanner, scanner hardware hasn't really changed much in recent years has it! apple os is software slightly more complicated than a single piece of scanner software, so why not. not really a comparison is it.
