I have an Lide 400 scanner running the Canon U Scan Utility in Scan Gear mode. I love it, the images are superb. However, I'm having a bit of a problem operating the zoom/paper size setting utility. It seems to automatically zoom to the extent of printed material on the page, but often gets confused as to the actual size of the area to be scanned. Does anyone know how I can turn off the auto-zoom that takes place during the initial quick-scan? Your help would be appreciated.

Hi dfmoeller,
When using ScanGear, click the Advanced Mode tab in the upper right corner.
In Advanced Mode, click the "Thumbnail View" button in the upper left corner to change the mode.
Attempt to scan.
