Canon ImageFormula R40 Scanner no longer scanning--TWAIN error

jbunshaft

I have loved my R40 scanner, but now it won't work. I use the Canon-supplied software, both the driver and the CaptureOnTouch software. Recently, when I've tried to use it, I get "An error has occurred with the TWAIN driver. [Error: 80FF0001]" and that's it.

I've tried re-installing the driver. I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. I've tried uninstalling all the Canon software and re-installing the whole software package. Nothing has made it work. Someone, please help! Thank you.

Thanks man,

this really helped me out!
I first was thinking about a windows update, as this was the last thing which had changed on the PC.

But as this now poped up a second time and the update is still blocked, the deactivation of the WIA service worked for me.

Thanks a lot for your inverstigation. I also opened a remedy ticket @ Canon Germany regarding this issue.

It may have been triggered by Microsoft, but the driver that isn't working is for my Canon scanner. I downloaded the new Canon software, and it's still only working part of the time. I paid Canon a few hundred dollars for a scanner that worked for a while and now is completely unreliable (and was a large paperweight for quite some time, making me take documents elsewhere for scanning). Four or five months to get an updated driver out--one that works, unlike the one they released last month--is more than enough time. Meanwhile, calling Canon on the phone was useless, and there doesn't seem to be an official response here in this Canon forum. MS isn't going to take ownership of the driver issues for every piece of equipment people buy. The equipment manufacturers should be doing that.

Daniel-Garus,

I bought my wife the ImageFormula R40 to use with her MacBook Pro 15" running Macos Catalina 10.15.7. I gave it to her for Christmas 2022 and today I proceeded to download the Installer File dated 12/09/2022.

The file installed without mishap, but I am unable to access the functions in the CaptureOnTouch software as both single and double-sided activation buttons cause an "Unable to find Driver" error message. There doesn't appear to be a proper Twain driver accessible to the system as Preview displays a grayed-out "Import From Scanner" menu-item.

I had briefly installed and tested the scanner with the software that was available when Amazon delivered the scanner in September and it worked fine with the then available CaptureOnTouch software, which I then uninstalled and wrapped her "present" for Christmas (having been burned by "Prime Day" sales that failed to function 90 days later. While the scanner was purchased at a decent discount, worked when delivered, and appears to be another excellent Canon product, it is only good as a boat anchor at present.

Please help.

I had the same issue, you can try what worked for me:

Win+R then type Services.MSC
Find:  Windows Image Acquisition    and then disable (Right click and Startup type to disable)
May ormay not need to reboot and then give the scanner a try. My be worth reinstalling drivers after the above.

Thank you, this has helped me

I am currently having the same issue as the other with my Canon scanner. It gives me this error message 80FF0001. It will work after uninstalling and reinstalling several times but will stop working again. Why is this happening and what solution has worked for the rest of you. I don't want to have to go through this every time.

No solution has worked for me. I've done everything suggested on here. Seems the only solution is going to be when Canon stands by their product and puts out a new driver or patch, so it works again. For now, the scanner is sitting here, doing nothing.

This is a problem. I didn’t spend all this money on a scanner for it not to be working properly and Canon doesn’t have a solution in place to resolve these issues with their product. So, this will hinder my business drastically🤦🏽‍♀️

From wherever you bought it, file a negative review - especially if on Amazon.

Thanks, and that’s where i purchased it from Amazon

Hi, did you tried to shut down & deactivate the Windows WIA service? In all my cases, at least 5 customers had this issue, it has worked for me!
