CanoScan 9000F not scanning

I have had a ConoScan 9000 for years. Only used once to scan all our family photos on the death of my parents after which I packed it away in its box.

Recently needed to scan some documents but ound that the scanner is no longer working.

While Scanning, I get a message that the scanner is working then scanning and finally an error messgae that my laptop could not communicate with the scanner.

Try another USB cable. Try a different USB port on the computer.

Tried 4 different USB cable and all the ports. Tried also on a different  laptop with same results.

Have any of the computers had an operating system update since the scanner last worked?
