RC-IP 100 and CR-N500 PTZ RS-422 connection help

I have a canon CR-N500 PTZ camera and a RC-IP 100 controller. I have successfully connected them over IP and now i am trying to get them  to communicate over serial connection.

I ran a cat 6 from the serial port of the RC-IP 100 straight to the CR-N500 and cannot get it to commincate

I Also tried a breakout cable where the NC and GND pins were swapped per the pinout diagram to no avail.

any help would be appreciated.
