Hello,

This piece of information has eluded me for a long time. I have looked in specification sheets, user manual and other countries of the canon website and I cannot find the answer...

Does anybody knows what is the Maximum sd card size for XA70 camcorder?

Thank you, Roberto

It is a two step process. First find the largest card that the camera can use:

The manual indicates SDXC. Now go to wikipedia and look up SD cards to see how large an SDXC can be:

So 2 TeraBytes, which has to be formatted EXFAT.

Capacities are always increasing, that is not the point; but the ability for a device to support a set capacity, that is the main point of this topic.

I just wanted to know the SD Card limitations of this camera, Canon did not provide this information, I asked the question, I got an answer and made a critique about this simple piece information getting omitted from the device's documentation.

And of course, you gave me an example of another company providing more complete technical documentation about their own product, proving my critique.

Lastly, my question was "Maximum sd card size for XA70" not "Do I need a 2TB card?"

Canon says that the camera supports SDXC cards. That means you can use *any* SDXC card. The maximum capacity is set by the standard, which never changes.

Around here, people ask if they can use a larger capacity SDXC card in an older camera that manual specifies for the original SD standard. That won't work.

In your case, you are safe with the 2TB cards. Now, in 10 years when the new SDXXXC cards come out with a max of a petabyte or so, people might ask if they can use one in an XA70, and we will have to say no.
