Hello everyone, I have been a Canon user for many years. I recently bought the Canon R5 for the second time. I have also tried to follow all the steps indicated to update the firmware, but it has been impossible to update it. Even though I have watched tutorials and videos, I have followed all the steps, I have had the battery fully charged, I have used a formatted SD card and when I go to insert it, the camera does not allow me to update from one version to another. I would like to know if any of you have had this problem and how you solved it because I am following each of the steps in the tutorials and on the official Dean page and the two R5 cameras I know I have do not allow me to update the firmware.

Greetings,
Are you upgrading an R5 or R5 C? Looks like the R5 C. It doesn't matter really because the process is similar. For the R5 C you will upgrade in Cinema OS.
If you have any accessories attached to the camera, besides a unadapted lens, please remove them.
Prior to upgrade, please remove your CF Express B card. You will only use the SD card during the upgrade process. Your .FIR file will go in the root directory of a freshly formatted SD card.
When you navigate to the upgrade menu, use the quick control dial on the back of the camera to navigate the menus. Use the set button to select an item. Once you get to the next screen, you'll need to use the quick control dial to move from 1.0.6.1 to the new firmware version. Then press the set button. Do not touch any buttons on the camera during the upgrade process. The R5 C takes about 9 minutes to update. The camera will restart and report successful upgrade.

You'll want to upgrade to 1.0.9.1 at minimum or 1.1.0.1. The only difference is a small update to time code. Lots of new features since 1.0.6.1. 🙂
