Canon C100 - setting it up without the side handle

Hi. I have a C100 which is missing the side grip. When powered on it automatically goes to set date setting - and since there is no side grip i can't input anything here (and no other way to get out of the set date menu - hence can't operate the camera). Anybody know any workarounds?

To my knowledge there is no way to bypass or set the date another way without the joystick on the C100's grip unit You might be able to remotely control it, but this would require purchasing a remote controller, and it might be less expensive to buy a used grip on eBay.
