Canon C100 HDMI capture problem

Amphioxus

Hi

Canon C100 --> ipad via HDMI and Ugreen capture card. Problem: the card only produces an image on its lowest three resolution settings. When it's set to 1920 x 1080 (the C100's output) it gives an error message to the effect that the C100's resolution is too low. So far as I know, I've got all the settings on the C100 done okay. Any help would be very welcome.

It might be because the HDMI output is interlaced and not progressive so is 1080i and not 1080p.

For instance, when I use my C100 mk2 with an Atomos Ninja 2 at 25fps, the Ninja has to apply a 2:2 pulldown of the HDMIs 50i output.to get 25fps progressive.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know of if any other capture cards -- for example, the Accsoon SeeMo -- would be able to handle an interlaced signal?  I've tried searching this but with no luck so far.

Hi. I've just checked, and in the frame rate menu of my C100 there are two options: 50i and FP25. I'm using the FP25, which, according the information I have, is not interlaced.

Update: been in contact with a guy from Accsoon. He says that the FP25 on the C100 is actually 25PsF, which is an interlaced format. And the Accsoon SeeMo will not handle interlaced.

25PsF is what you get when you apply a 2:2 pulldown to a 50i video. It is where the two fields of the interlaced video have been combined.to create a progressive video. On the.C100 mks1.&2 this is what is recorded internally not what comes out of the HDMI. PsF video works fine in most editing software.

Thanks. So what does come out of the C100's HDMI? And should there be a way of capturing that HDMI output and feeding it into the USB C port of my ipad air M3 so that the ipad screen correctly displays the video content for monitoring and screen recording?

Also. I've just been reading that the problem that many HDMI capture cards have is that that C100's output "looks" like it's interlaced to the card, when in fact it's not. Is that correct?

It is interlaced and the HDMI output is 1080i. With the camera set to 25fps the HDMI output is 50i. This is why you need to apply a 2:2 pulldown in either software or hardware to get a 25fps 1080p progressive video. Hardware recorders like the Atomos range are able to apply the pulldown when recording.
