C500 Mk II stuck ND filter wheel

RodrigoLizana

Hello,

I'm having a weird issue with my new c500 Mk2 internal ND filter.  Sometimes it gets stuck in the 4 or 6 stop position and the -/+ buttons stop responding.   Also it makes a different sound when settling in the 4 stops and 10 stops position.   Another strange thing is that while I never use the extended ND range feature, at one time the camera started up with the ND in the ND 10 stops position.   On the LCD screen I get a "ND - - stops" in red letters.   Please find attached a photo of the LCD screen when the filter gets stuck and a link to a short Youtube video with the sound it makes when settling at the 4 stops position.

Thanks

Hi Rodrigo,

I am very happy to hear you were able to get your camera serviced within warranty! I was actually about to post an update myself, I also decided to bring in my camera for service and collected the camera yesterday.

Just like you the ND filter assembly has been replaced, and everything seems to be working perfectly. The new system is overall a lot more silent than the previous one, which is a very pleasant surprise.

Did you notice the same on your replacement? And is the motor "settling in" sound completely gone? For me it sometimes still happens for a tiny moment, but very rarely. I spoke to the technician when I picked up the camera and he assured me the whole assembly has been replaced. I think it probably is a normal behaviour for the motor to sometimes be heard.

Wishing you lot of enjoyable shoots with your C500 in the future and I hope your faith in the reliability of your C500 has been restored!

Regards, Martijn

Hi Martijn,

Yes the settling sound is gone, not sure if it´s more silent than the before but there's no issue with the settling now and it sits in position just like the rest of the other ND´s   Wish Canon could make the warranty worldwide official because the camera is great and would love to add another C500 or c400 plus a C50 as a B cam and gimbal use.   C500 with a PL lens, mattebox, lens motors, lens control system, wireless video transmitter and wireless sound receiver gets to be too heavy for the RS4 pro or any medium size gimbal.    I´ve done some very interesting test shooting high contrast scenes and night scenes and then grading in Resolve + Dehancer and I'm really impressed what this little camera can do.    Haven't tested the SD proxies recording, did all the proxies from the RAW files in Resolve with zero issues but it looks great to have those proxies straight out of the camera.

Wish a reliable c500 for you too !!

Regards

Rodrigo
