7k open gate is pretty awesome! Canon C50

So I was somewhat skeptical how useful open gate would be. But I recorded a dance practice just tonight in 7k open gate at 29.97 fps. I put warp stabilizer on it in Adobe Premiere. Now normally warp stabilizer punches in with a significant crop in order to hide the black areas due to the stabilization. But now I had so much

resolution on both the vertical and horizontal direction that you don't worry about a crop. Taking a 6912x4608 frame down to 3840x2160 gives so much freedom for framing.

Recorded in clips over the course of 3 hours at 1620 mbps for 7k 3:2 XF-HEVC S YCC422 10 bit at 1620 Mbps onto a 1TB card. No worry about heat. A pair of batteries (used my R5ii battery grip) lasted with plenty leftover. Pretty easy to edit too in Adobe Premiere.

Still learning all this Canon Cinema OS stuff, but it's been a lot of fun.

Greetings,

Great that you're enjoying your new camera. I think your post is the first we've seen from an end user.

The C50 is certainly a nice/powerful camera.  It's new 35.2 stacked BSI sensor Is proving itself extremely capable.  It's 7k opengate capability is perfect for full frame post processing framing and high quality down sampled 4k/2k video.  Enhanced creative options are always welcome as you have discovered.
