I recently went from a canon pro 200 to a canon pro 300, and didn't do alot of research on the ink difference, but the pro 300 has the lucia ink and I guess it has like a different sheen/metallicness to it? is it possible to make a setting to reduce this or print similiarly flat as the pro 200? as I have a customer that likes the old style better.
is the sheen in reference to the optimizer cartridge? just looking for feedback on how to maybe remove that metallic sheen, using a baryta paper I guess you'd call it semi gloss fine art paper. not sure the paper has much to do with it, seems to be the ink as I've always used the same or similiar paper.

Hi PhotoGuy01! Thanks for posting in the Canon Community Forum. I see that your imagePROGRAF PRO-300 is producing a sheen on your prints and you would like to know how to reduce that affect.
The PRO-200 and PRO-300 use different inks. The first uses a dye-based ink. The color in a dye-based ink will soak into the paper. On the other hand, the PRO-300 uses a pigment-based ink. The color particles (pigment) in this ink stays on the surface of the paper. Because it does not soak into the paper, it will look different. That can account for the “sheen” that you are seeing.
There are benefits to pigment-based ink. The biggest benefit is that the colors last longer (if the print are carefully handled). It is, however, less scratch-resistant (because the pigment stays on the top of the paper).
The chroma-optimizer is used to smoothen out the surface after the ink is applied. This is needed because the pigment tends to lean toward the opposite side that the print head is traveling. Because ink is disbursed as the print head goes left and right, the pigment will lean left in some spots and right in others. The chroma-optimizer takes care of that (flattens it out), but it does not make the pigment soak into the paper.
It is possible that using a different type of paper will reduce the “sheen” that you are seeing. I would recommend trying Matte Photo Paper or something that does not have gloss. There is no way to make the PRO-300 print like the PRO-200 does because they use different types of ink.
I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
