I have had this pixma pro 100 for a few years. Last fall our house was struck by lightning. Since then the printer will not work. When I go to download the drivers, it gets to the point where it says plug in USB cable. It never recogninzes the cable, like I have never plugged it in. Therefore I cannot finish the download. Is this something that can be repaired or is it even worth it. Our local computer repair store does not work on printers.

For you to evaluate your options I suggest you contact Canon support.
Canon Canada still has them listed new for $499 and there are other NIB options around that price range. Canon USA no longer sells them. Used they run about $150 and up. Canon USA might offer you a discount on a new model.
Only you can decide whether your current investment in ink and such makes sense for you to stay with the model or upgrade.
I recommend whatever you do you invest in a UPS with a lightning arrestor and keep the printer plugged into that and on at all times for this class of printer. We recently had power surges at our house due to high winds and a power outage and I was thankful that my Pro 1100 came through it OK while plugged into the UPS.
