Is the Canon CLI-8 ink being discontinued?

I was just at Office Depot attempting to buy several cartridges for my Pro9000 and was told Canon issued a buyback.  There were only a few individual colors left at my store.  Has anyone heard anything about this?

I don't know where you read this but I highly doubt it. Printer manufacturers make most of their profit from ink sales not the printer sales. That is where the money is. You may have read Canon is discontinuing CLI-8 printer manufacturing which is true.

Hi joyneel and ebiggs1,

While we aren't using the CLI-8 in any of our current models, that doesn;t mean that we are discontinuing their manufacture.  As long as people keep buying them, we'll keep making them until it gets to the point where the cost of making them exceeds their demand.  Considering that we sold a fair amount of printers that use that particular series, I don't see that happening any time soon.
