Imageprograf Pro-1000 ink cartridge storage question.

Denchamber

So I have purchased a new Imageprograf pro 1100 to replace my trusty 1000 (which gave me 8 great years of service), which is unfixable.   I would like to give my partially used 1000 cartridges to a friend who has the 1000 model.   Who knows, of course, how long it might be before he actually needs them.   So what advice is there to preserve them from drying out?   I could of course leave them in the machine but then he'd have to find a place for it for an extended period of time until each cartridge runs out in his 1000 printer.

Hi Denchamber! Thank you for contributing to the Canon community.

You are correct. The best option would be to keep the inks inside the printer until it is time to put them in another machine. You will need to turn the printer off and wait for it to completely shut down before you disconnect the power cable. If you do that, the ink cartridges should be capped (sealed) keeping exposure to air to a minimum.

If there is no room to store the PRO-1000, you can take the cartridges out and place them inside an air-tight bag. Please make sure to get as much air out of the bag before sealing it. We do not recommend placing tape over the ink cartridges because that can cause other issues.

Whatever your choice, we do recommend that you store the printer and/or the ink cartridges in room temperature (68 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit). If the room is going to be between 78- and 80-degrees Fahrenheit, please make sure that the humidity is controlled.

We also recommend using the ink within a year of the cartridges being installed. Therefore, if the inks have been sitting inside your printer for six months, they will need to be used within the next six months. If you notice that the ink is missing from the page when they are reinstalled, you may need to perform a Cleaning or Deep Cleaning to get the ink flowing again.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
