How do I connect my handed down Pr9000 to my Mac

I just received this printer and downloaded the softwear from the Canon website.   I need help getting started.  Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the speedy response.  I would like to get it up with enough time to print some photos before the holiday, but other then that it is not super time sensitive.  I just updated my Mac to the Yosmeitie operation system (the latest one I believe).
