Hello! I recently set up my prograf-4600, I do not have wifi or internet at my printing suite. I have a Macbook Pro, M4 chip, macOS 15.3.1, I bought this laptop in November of '24 and it's 7 months old. I do not have a USB-A or ethernet port on the laptop. I tried connecting a cord from my USB-C port on my computer to the USB-A port on the printer, but it immediately tells me I've connected an incompatible device, and that I need to remove it immediately.
I called support, and they told me that I can only connect USB-A to USB-A, not USB-C to USB-A. The support operator also said I could connect an ethernet cable from the printer to my computer, but I do not have a port for that. She said that I can not use an adapter to use a USB-A to USB-A connection. I tried using an old laptop from 2012 and downloading the software and firmware to that, I can't even update the computer to the level required to open the firmware download.
It feels crazy that in 2025 I can't connect with a USB-C port on my laptop to the USB-A port on the printer. I do not understand, and I have tried to look up an answer and can not find it, I would love to understand what impact USB-C to USB-A has compared to USB-A to USB-A. The fact that I will have to buy another computer just to use my printer is insane. I have a new computer already which cost almost as much as my printer. So now I can't use any software while printing from my printer, I can't easily control the layout, can't print multiple pictures together. It also won't print .tif files, it says it's an unsupported file type, which the canon support operator said is not normal. She said it should be able to print that file type.
Is there a solution here that does not involve paying for internet that I will almost never use, or buying a new computer? Thanks

I solved this issue! The Canon help representative gave me inaccurate information. The USB-A port on the front of the printer near the LED screen is only for a flash drive. That was my issue! There is a USB-B port on the back of the printer that I was able to connect to my USB-C port on my computer 🙂 It worked just fine.
