Finally! A Functional ARM64 Driver for Canon ImageRUNNER Printer

Finally, some good news for all Canon ImageRUNNER ADVANCE printer users running on Windows ARM64! A working driver has finally been found!

The ARM64 driver, however, does not come from Canon. Instead, the solution comes from Xerox. While Canon has yet to provide an official ARM64 driver, Xerox has supported Windows ARM64 with drivers for their products since the early days.

The Xerox Global Print Driver (PCL6) for ARM64 has been successfully tested on my Canon ImageRUNNER ADVANCE C3325i, and it works! Many advanced features, such as color printing and duplex printing, are available.

How to Install the Driver

You can download the Xerox Global Print Driver (PCL6) for ARM64 from their website.

Installation Steps:

  1. Add a printer.
  2. Select "The printer that I want isn’t listed."
  3. Choose "My printer is a little older. Help me find it."
  4. After scanning, the Canon printer should be detected. Select it and click Next.
  5. Click "Have Disk."
  6. Browse to the extracted Xerox driver folder and select the .INF file.
  7. The Xerox GPD PCL6 V5.xxxxx printer will be available for selection.

Although the printer will be identified as a Xerox printer, it functions properly.

Comparison with IPP Driver

Previously, I posted about using an IPP driver as a workaround for Canon printers on ARM64. While it technically works, it is not ideal. Enabling IPP settings on the printer can be cumbersome, and Windows driver installation may not always work smoothly. Even when it does, I have encountered printing issues where certain portions of the page are omitted. This is rare but has caused problems on multiple occasions. The same exact file would never print correctly, making IPP an unreliable solution.

I did not personally discover this solution. I came across a discussion on Reddit where a user reported that the Xerox ARM64 driver worked with Canon printers. After testing it myself, I can confirm that this is by far the most practical solution for Windows ARM64 users.

While Canon sits back and does nothing, Xerox unknowingly comes to the rescue. It’s pretty telling who actually supports their users.  Long live Canon, the brand that lets other companies do their job for them!
