C3525i stuck on checking data

We have a C3525i that has screen stuck on "checking data (1 min remaining)" from past couple days. I quick google search says we need to update firmware and if that doesnt fix it need to format HDD and Reinstall data but how do i do any of this without a functioning screen. We tried power cycling the machine but still the same message. Can anyone guide me on how to update firmware or format HDD and reinstall system software without a working screen ?

Thanks Danny. I posted this here since I thought updating firmware should be a simple task that a user can perform themselves and not require a service call.

Its not actually.  End users cannot upgrade firmware on a Image Runner.  The firmware isn't available to end users or the general public.  IR's are classified as enterprise products and are supported by Canon's Dealer Network.  FW can only be upgraded a device which is operating properly.  If the error is due to a hardware issue, flash memory or hard drive, this will need to be corrected before a firmware update or reimage can be performed.  I recommend you establish a relationship with a dealer.  It will provide the fastest resolution.
