I've had this printer since new, and it has worked well on the Windows 10 system. There is a laptop that communicates wirelessly and an older Gateway desktop that has to use an Ethernet cable.
Both computers recognize the printer, and if I remove the printer and reinstall it, that happens with difficulty until I specify the IP address the printer is showing. Each computer tries to send a print file or a test print file, but it's not received and printed.
The printer copies, scans and enlarges without difficulty.
I've shut down and disconnected the printer, router, and computers, then restarted everything with no improvement. I;ve changed the plug location of the ethernet cable in the router, changed the ethernet cable, again without improvement.
What have I missed in the network? Is there any software upgrade for the printer?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The imageCLASS MF8380Cdw is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!
