We just purchased Canon MF753cdw for our 5-person office.
Here are the printer settings:
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
E-Mail Address: eMail@gmail.com
SMTP Authentication (SMTP AUTH): On
User Name: eMail@gmail.com |
|
Password: Gmail App Password (Without spaces) |
Use TLS for SMTP TX: On
Networking
SMTP TX: 587
When I click on [Check SMTP Connection] button
Here is the result:
Could not find the server. Check the following:
- The settings for [SMTP Server]
- [DNS Settings] from the [IPv4 Settings] screen or the [IPv6 Settings] screen
If there are no problems with the settings on the device side, contact the SMTP server administrator.
I have tried SMTP Server: 173.194.203.26 (Which is smtp.gmail.com no DNS required)
Same error message as above.
I have spent serval days trying to trouble shoot this error.
Any help would be appreciated.

Solved
After 4 days of trouble shooting and reviewing multiple Canon, Google posts and ChatGPT trouble shooting here is the solution that worked. (Almost gave up and returned the printer)
From the Remote UI.
Data Management-->Initialize Menu-->Network Settings. Then click on the [Initialize] button top right corner.
Now [Restart Device] top left.
I then went to Network Settings-->Port Number Settings and reset SMTP TX:587 (Again)
Now [Restart Device] top left.
Reran the [Check SMTP Connection] and presto.
“Connection to the server was successful.”
I hope this helps someone else.

Greetings,
Glad you figured it out. I use the same on my 2 lasers however, mine worked on the first attempt (both devices).
You must have inadvertently mistyped something somewhere requiring the network reinitialization. The UI does prompt for restart when you change port settings, etc.
Enjoy the printer. It's a good one.

I am really struggling with these steps on my end. i am restarting the device in the sequence noted. I confirmed port 587 for SMTP TX. Yet I continue to get the following error, even though I’ve checked both my G mail password credentials and my wife’s and they are accurate— same error for both emails. Help!
SMTP authentication (SMTP AUTH) error.
Check [User Name] and [Password] for SMTP authentication (SMTP AUTH).

Are you logging in with your Gmail (regular) password or Gmail app password? Here is a video on how to create an Gmail application password. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXiPshHn9Pw
You need to use a Gmail application password on your printer to sign in.
Once the app password created, copy and paste it somewhere safe. It is 16 a digit password - 19 digits with spaces). I left the spaces in mine and it works/logs in fine.
Also in the "E-Mail/I-Fax Settings"
Make sure "Use TLS for SMTP TX " is enabled.
Hope this helps.
