To use the D420 with a Windows 11 computer, you can download the Windows 10 drivers and software using the link found HERE. The drivers will work with your Windows 11 computer.

No, the windows 10 printer drivers do not work with my D420. The scan drivers do work. Where can I download a driver that works for printing, not just for scanning. I downloaded the two available drivers from the website, but neither of them say "printer." They both mention scanning.

I finally got the printer to work. The computer did not find the printer when I plugged it in, but I found a location where the program asked which port was used, and when I typed in the correct USB port, the printer was recognized. I do not remember where I found that instruction.

Awesome that it is working in Windows 11.  I am trying to help my Dad set up his new Dell Precision workstation (Win 10 Pro 64 bit) with his old ImageCLASS D420.  We were able to get the ToolBox for scanning to work but after 6 or 7 attempts, we can not make Win 10 PRO 64 bit recognize the printer.

We have made sure to keep the printer unplugged from the tower while running the setup wizard.  I have tried deleting the downloaded drivers and re-installing several times and have made sure to restart Win 10 Pro 64 in between attempts.  When I check the device manager, the printer will not appear but an unknown device will appear with the time stamp of the running of the setup wizard. When I try to update the driver for the unknown device by browsing to the folder that contains the drivers downloaded from the Canon support page, Windows says that it can not complete the driver update.  Are there any other tips or tricks to try get the printer working on Win 10 PRO 64bit?  I have also tried doing the 32 bit version of the UFR printer driver but the setup wizard gets interrupted and won't proceed because of the 64 bit Win environment on the workstation.  When I view the Printers and Scanners page (launched from the control panel) I see a Laser Multifunction printer installed but it does not allow for printing and I do not have the option to set it as the default printer.  On all of the PCs at my house, I can see my Canon devices by name (for example: Canon MF3010 or ImageClass D242) listed instead of just the generic term "Laser Multifunction Printer".  Thanks in advance for your help!

How to get ImageClass D420 Print function to work on Windows 11

1. Download print drivers for Windows 10 (imageCLASS D420 MFDrivers)
2. With Printer turned off, install the MFDrivers.
3. Now turn your Printer back On and make sure it is connected to a USB port or step 4 won't work.
4. Will need to add the printer manually. Go to Windows "Printers and Scanners", Click on Add Device, after a few secs you should have option to click on "Add manually", click on Add manually, Select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings", Click Next, Make sure "Use a existing port" is selected and click on dropdown to select "USB002 (CanonD400-450 (UFRIL LT))", main thing here is to select the port that has your Canon listed, Click next, You should see Canon listed under Manufacturer, Select Canon and then under Printers select "Canon D400-450" click Next and make sure this option "Use the driver that is currently installed" is selected, Click Next, Choose a Printer Name, Click Next, Printer Sharing is up to you, click Next, Then Click on Print Test Page, Note if this doesn't work you just need to power off your printer and power it back On.

Without your solution Hector I would not be able to print again.  Just scan and copy.  I have Windows 10 64 bit and do appreciate your suggestion.  I followed it.  And it worked.  Thousand THANK YOUs.

  • Greetings. I followed the instructions and selected Windows 10 but the D420-450 is not an option to select. I also checked the windows update and there is not a D420 option. I have a Samsung Galaxy Book 3 with Win 11. The control panel device & printers shows a laser multifunction printer.

Thanks in advance. Chet

I found that WHENEVER Windows does an update, I CANNOT get the ImageCLASS D420 to print.  All it does is want to Fax, which I DO NOT need.  I really truly need the print option.  Especially for medication ordering and other things.  So. please pass the words on that LOYAL CANON users are STILL having problems and will continue to let CANON know about them.

We're sorry to hear about the problem.  The imageCLASS D420 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!
