PIXMA TR8620a goes offline and requires power reset to come back online

This printer used to work fine now the printer works for a little while and then goes offline. I have to power reset the printer and it comes back online.

The results are the same with either wifi or ethernet.

Auto power off is set to never.

Firmware level says it is the latest at 1.062

The printer has an IP address and the router sees the canon at that IP address.

It works for a while and then just goes offline and won't come back. Power reset brings it back.

Hi Dave,

The IP address that your router is assigning to the printer is probably changing after some period of inactivity, thus the printer is going off line.  You power cycling the device is refreshing the connection.

To resolve, power cycle the printer.  Log into your router and view the list of attached devices.  Note the IP address assigned to the printer.

Now reserve or assign this IP as a static IP for the printer.  Power cycle the printer again and confirm the IP shows as the assigned address in the Attached Device List.

Now return to your PC and Remove the Printer.  Now restart your system.  Now re-add the printer as an IP printer specifying its IP, the one you assigned previously.  This will ensure persistency on your network and on your computer.  The printer can then be shut off, go to sleep or not be used and it will always get the IP you assigned when it is used again.

So far it looks like this is working.

I used the "reservation" feature of the Netgear Router and reserved the IP address it was currently using (while it was working). I didn't reinstall the printer on the PC, thinking it was using the same IP as before when working. It continues to work.

Thanks
