PIXMA TR4720 scan app on computer isnt working

so my computer isn't recognizing my tr 4720 as a scanner. it will come up as a printer but not as a scanner. it will scan no problem when i hit the button on printer but when i pull up the scan app it says no scanner available. does anyone know what i can do to fix this?
