PIXMA TR4551 Finding the correct scanner to PC software Or utility

I have wasted too much time going round in circles trying to get any sense from idiotic chat bots on so called Canon help and support sites. I only want to download the correct utility to be able to scan to my PC.

I had the correct utility Installed and used it frequently to scan docs to my PC However now I have changed to a different Pixma model  the utility refused to communicate with it.

The utility would only display the previous printers ID ( MG series) and refused to search for TR4551 Or allow any changes.

I have therefor deleted it in the hope that during a new installation it will recognize the new printer. The microscopic dot matix display on the printer does not help BUT WHERE can I find the utility.??    My search parameters are "Scan utility for Pixma TR 4551 download"  IS that too complicated? any help in this matter will be very appreciated. Thanks J.R..

Greetings ,

For proper installation and function, It's not possible to unplug one device and connect another in its place.  The software between various models is not interchangeable. You have to install the correct software for your new printer.

Part of this process involves computer "hygiene". Removing the old device and its software before connecting and installing your new device.

The TR4551 does not appear to be a model intended for sale in the United States.

I found the following support site in another region.

TR4551

I suggest you remove the old device from your system, then uninstall all of its drivers and software applications. Now restart your computer and follow the instructions for installing your new printer.  This will also require that you download the software specific to your new device and operating system you are using it with.

Thanks for the your response Rick, and obviously you are correct in your advice. However I did uninstall the previous printers and drivers and installed the correct "all in one" software supplied on the canon site for the TR4551. But as I remember I had previously had to download an additional piece of software to get both of my MG series printers to scan to my PC.. Regrettably its that software or utility that I seem to be lacking  now. So If you have any ideas on it, pleaselet me know. Thanks J.R.

Did you look in the Canon Utilities folder on hard drive (or use search tool for IJ)?  My printer installation automatically installed the IJ Scan Utility during the installation process.

It looks like your installation did also.

Hey there!

Thanks for posting. The Canon Community is operated by Canon USA, so we can't offer official support for products sold and used outside of the US. However, the setup procedure should automatically uninstall all of the existing Canon software and reinstall all necessary software. I've made a shortcut for you here: https://canon.us/4cGV39m

After you install that, if you still have issues, you'll want to contact support in your country by visiting https://global.canon/en/support

Hi John, Yes I would of expected ALL necessary drivers and utilities to have been installed during the installation procedure, however that did not happen during my original mg series installation and I had to download MP Navigator ex, later when I first tried to scan to my PC.. Once installed scanning to my PC was simplicity itself.    I will check the canon utilities folder as you suggest. Thanks for the advice.  J.R.
