PIXMA TR4550 wired (ethernet) connection option

Grenouille

Hi there

Is this possible? I've connected the printer via ethernet cable, but it's not showing up on my network. I've scrolled through the printer's setup menu, but there only seem to be wi-fi options.

Any help appreciated

I've created a wired connection from the router to the room where the printer is - there are three other pieces of equipment (TV, Firestick & Stereo) now wired in that room; with each the transition required no intervention on my part. However, my router will not find the printer over a wired connection - and, as I said above, the printer's setup menu does not appear to offer this choice.

There are two RJ11 ports on the back of the printer: one, I assumed, was for connecting to a router; and the second for a fax, maybe?

I'll circle back to my original question: ''Is a wired connection even possible?''

Looking at page 164 of your printer manual does not show an input for a LAN cable. WiFi or USB connection only.

Thanks for joining the conversation, Grenouille!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using within the PIXMA TR4500 series.  The model number should appear on the front of the printer at the upper right. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

I think you need to do that using the installation CD or downloaded driver installation app.

Did the printer have a Static IP address given to it with the old router, rather than getting a DHCP address assigned by the router?

If this is the case, and the new router does not have the same subnet (the first three numbers of its IP address, like 192.168.0.xx for example), the new network will not detect the printer.

I've not changed the router - just trying to establish a wired connection.

Oh, okay. i was thinking of another post.

The printer should let you choose between wired and Wi-Fi. They are both Ethernet. They work the same way as far as a computer being able to see the printer. If the printer is set to use DHCP addressing, it should get an IP address from your router automatically.

You are better off, though, if you assign a Static IP address to the printer, and tell the router to reserve that address. That way, the printer won't allow its address to change, which would result in the computer not seeing it.

Networking can be confusing to a novice. Get some assistance from Canon Support and your router provider to work through this.

The printer does already have a static IP address. I'm trying to establish a wired connection because the wi-fi is sketchy in my old house, even with range extenders.

I've created a wired connection from the router to the room where the printer is - there are three other pieces of equipment (TV, Firestick & Stereo) now wired in that room; with each the transition required no intervention on my part. Well that's inconvenient. Thanks for responding.
