PIXMA MG5420: How do I move my driver from my old Mac to my new Mac?

Howdy folks,

I have a Canon MG5420 printer and an old iMac.  I just purchased a new iMac and would love to use the same printer but I am unable to get or move the driver from the old computer to the new one.  Only thing I can find on the old computer regarding the driver is Driver version 16.10.0.0.

The Canon site is not helpful.  I checked for the driver there and found a list of three, none of which looked correct as they all appeared be add on drivers to do more stuff.  I downloaded one anyway and my new Mac did not recognize it as a legitimate driver for this printer.

TIA

Greetings,

I'm afraid moving or migrating a driver is not possible.  The printer itself is 14 yrs old and has not been officially supported since OSX Mojave v10.14

The software available for it under Ventura or Sonoma is limited.

Canon Support for PIXMA MG5420 | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

What you can try:

Download and install the IJ Networking Tool.

Connect the device to your wireless network.

Now install it as an IP printer.  I cannot promise what level of function you'll get.  Basic printing and scanning hopefully.

VueScan by hamrick software is another possible option.

Canon has a Upgrade Program which is designed for loyal Canon owners whose device has reached EoL or is out of support.

Great that you've had so many good years with the device.

Ha!!!! 14 years. Where does the time go?  This thing has been bullet proof but I guess it’s time to buy a new printer to go with my new iMac.

Thank you for your reply and explanation.

Have an awesome weekend and stay healthy.

Thanks Rich,

Same to you.  I did a new Wi-Fi Mesh System and Printer last month.  Makes for some very smooth sailing.
