Hello everyone!
Just got a new Canon that I'm very excited about! Unfortunately, it refuses to connect to my network. I will buy a USB cable if I have to but would prefer to just connect it over Wi-fi.
I have tried restarting my printer, the devices I'm trying to connect it to, and my router.
I have seen some people suggest connecting with a guest network, but that isn't something that my router is able to do.
Similarly, when I go into the app on my phone, it works right up until I connect to the canon Wi-fi, when it tells me I am "connected without internet". Unhelpful.
Does anyone have any more things I could try?
Thanks in advance!

How is the network configured? The printer requires a 2.4 GHz broadcast that uses WPA2 encryption. Does your network meet these requirements?

Oh, I see! My network has a WPA2 encryption but 5GHz broadcast. Is there any way around this or am I out a printer?
Thanks so much for the response!

Greetings,
While possible, it's rare that a standard router is only a single band like 5G. This type of router is usually relegated to mobile or hotspot types. Netgear, T-Mobile are examples.
If your router only has a 5 GHz broadcast, the printer is not compatible unfortunately.

What brand and model is your router? I bet it has two bands but the 2.4ghz most likely needs to be enabled.

I found out a way to enable 2.4GHz on both my computer and phone and it STILL says it's "failing to communicate with printer". UGH! Any idea why that would be??

Try to reinstall the Canon software. You can get it from here: https://ij.start.canon/ip8720
It will walk you through the steps. If you get stuck, be sure your printer is registered at https://canon.us/account and give our team a call during normal business hours, at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666).

I agree with Stephen's post, it is likely that your Canon software did not complete its installation due to not being able to connect the printer to your wifi.
