Canon Forum Brain Trust-
I just purchased a new Canon G7020 printer. I have the printer connected to my router via a CAT 5 cable, and with that connection, I was able to connect our Windows 11 home desktop computer to the printer and it works fine.
However, I am trying to connect my Windows 11 laptop to the printer wirelessly. This is what I've done so far:
1) I manually, through the printer control panel, connected the printer to a 2.4Ghz network in our house
2) I connected my laptop to that same 2.4Ghz network
3) I've downloaded the Windows 11 Canon App to my laptop. The app looks for the printer and "sees" it, but then sends me to the download software page. I download the software, run it, and on Step 2 it says "Connection failed." It then directs me to "Connect to Wi-Fi from the printer" which I did. Also the message on the printer screen said "Easy Wifi connection is complete"
The Canon App on my laptop did ask me to press the button on the front of the laptop that looks like 2 linked chains and my laptop was able to find the printer that way, but after following the steps subsequent to that, I ultimately ended up with an error that the laptop could not find the printer.
I've already connected the printer using WPS *and* by using the printer control panel to type in my 2.4Ghz password and connect it that way. So the printer is connected to my network by Cat 5 cable, 2.4Ghz network, and using WPS.
At this point I'm stuck. Not sure what to do. #G7020

Greetings,
I suggest you pick one connection method for the printer and stick with it. You can use ethernet or wireless, but not both. Once the printer is connected to the network, any device connecting to the same network, regardless of connection type will be able to use the printer.
The Canon Print App is available for iOS or Android.
For windows 11, you will need to visit the printers support portal and download the Printer and Scanner driver.

Look for this installer:
Print Driver and Scan Utility Installer Ver.1.00 (Windows)
it sounds like you have one or more failed installation attempts. Trying to install over one or more failed attempts may not work.
**Optional but recommended. Assigning or reserving a static IP for your printer on your network is considered best practice. Persistent devices (like printers) that do not come and go from the network can benefit from an assigned IP. This is done on your router and only needs to be done once.
Start by removing the printer from your W11 system. Next uninstall any software you tried to install. Drivers, Utilities, etc. **Restart your system.
Choose the connection (ethernet or wireless). As mentioned assigning an IP is good practice. Once the device is connected to the network, and your PC is also connected, run the installer I referenced above. This should install the drivers for print and scan.
If you have questions, let us know.

The printer itself should be given the static IP address in its network configuration, switching from DHCP.

OK lots of questions now......
1) You said pick one connection method and stick to it. So if my Windows 11 desktop PC is connected to my router with a CAT 5 cable and my new Canon printer is connected to the router with CAT 5 cable, then the only way other computers (like laptops) can connect to this printer is via CAT 5 cable? Is that correct?
If that is correct, then I have to disconnect my desktop PC CAT 5 cable from my router AND the CAT 5 cable from the printer to the router? Is that correct? What if my desktop PC doesn't have wifi?
2) I did print out the network configuration page for the printer. And under 3-2-12 of the printout, it says the IP address of my printer is 192.168.1.30. But I have to "assign" an IP address to the printer? How do I do that? I did try to use the method where the laptop tries to find the printer via its IP address, but even when I typed in that IP address from the printout, it still couldn't find it.
I will follow the directions above and erase all the Canon software from my laptop and try again. Hopefully you all can stick with me to the end........

Thank you for your time. I deleted the printer software from my laptop, rebooted, used the software you linked above, and all is well now. Thanks!

I just purchased this printer and from the very beginning, have the EXACT same problem as the OP with the exception that I have only ever tried to connect to the printer wirelessly. I've ensured I am using a 2.4 GHz SSID only, I've created a static IP address for it on my network and can ping the IP address from my laptop. I ensured all the drivers were removed on my Windows 11 laptop and restarted. Yet still, even the drivers from the download link you provided cannot find the printer and install it.

Delosky- Yeah, I'm finding that our laptops and main home computer are constantly having issues printing via the network. It works for a while, then stops working, then we have to troubleshoot. It's frustrating.

So what am I supposed to do as a consumer? I bought this printer with every expectation that I should just be able to connect to it wirelessly like every other printer on the market. It's unboxed, the ink has been filled, I've spent 5 hours trying to connect to it for the first time, my old HP printer (6 yrs old) doesn't work anymore because I cancelled the ink subscription.
I'm very disappointed in Canon right now. I fully expected a quality printer with modern technology that would be easily accessible in my home for any device. Instead, I'm stuck trying to back door connect to it and install antiquated software packages.

Network devices that seemingly disappear from a network is usually due to incorrect network configuration or something in your software environment.
If properly configured a network device will maintain a persistent connection. When a static IP is used, the router will always uses the assigned IP address for the device. This ensures consistent and reliable connectivity. (static destination).
If you're Canon software fails to detect the printer during install after it's been assigned a static IP address, you can add it manually as a TCP/IP printer. This is applicable to Windows or Mac OS.
If you need assistance performing this one-time setup, we would need to know the version and build of your operating system.
