I have been working to get the Remote Printing function to work on my ImageClass MF654Cdw. With help, I've got it to at least respond to sending an email to it.
Now, when I try to send something to the email address to print, I get error messages which do not make sense to me. The first was NG #827 and then also received NG #818 later, but the next time I tried it gave me the NG #827 again. I tried a couple of different things and would like to understand how this is supposed to work a little better.
1. What would cause this error code? I see it has something to do with a standard email format and I'm not sure why that would cause a problem.
2. Is the only option to use this to "forward as an attachment"? I have found that my gmail app on my phone does not have that option and it can only be done from the computer.
3. Does the email you are forwarding have to have an attached pdf file and then it will only print the pdf, or can I "forward as an attachment" any gmail email and have that email print as if I am sitting at my computer sending an email to it?
Basically, my boss had an hp printer where he simply emailed the emails to the printer he wanted to print and he liked that simplicity. I am trying to figure out how this might work on the canon and how complicated it will be for him to be able to do this, and if it is even possible from his phone without going through steps I've read where we might have to downloading an email and then start a new email and then find and attach that download to the email.
Thanks for your help!

Greetings,
The feature you are describing is called iFax. Information about it can be found in the printer user manual.
Configuration is similar to Scan to Email, but instead of outbound you are configuring inbound communication. Setup is not difficult but it does depend on your experience and skill level. Both POP and SMTP are supported. You can use just about any mail provider you wish.

Greetings,
Let me address a few more of your questions.
What causes an error message. Incorrect configuration.
Email attachments Gmail app. Your Gmail app will allow you to make attachments to messages. I've been using Gmail since 1994 and carrying an Android device for almost 15 years. You can forward mail that includes attachments or attach files to messages using the Gmail app on a mobile device.
Supported file types are .PDF, .docx, .jpg. .tiff and .PNG. It might support spreadsheets too, but I've never tried 😀.

I would be happy to work further with you on this if you like. Let me know the mail provider you want to use for inbound mail.

Great. Before we address configuration, I'd like to ask about the forwarding email process question.I am aware of how to make an attachment etc, but my boss has a preference on how complex he prefers this process. See below.
#1. Can a person open the gmail app on their phone, whether it be an android or iphone, and read an email that does not have an attachment, then select to simply forward that email to the printer without using "forward as attachment" and have it produce a printout that looks exactly as if they were sitting at their computer printing the email?
Example: I send myself an email from my personal email to my work email that simply saiys, "Test" and then from my work email, forward that email to the email address set up for the printer which then produces a print out that looks exactly as if I was sitting at my computer printing the email.
My boss is familiar with this simple process of just forwarding an email to the printer, no attachment needed. He will not want to go through a process where he needs to create an email and add an attachment in order to print it from his phone while on a job site, or only be able to print remotely if it has a specific type of attachment.
#2. Configuration. I used the configuration you provided in the screen shots sent to me a little while back. I was able to make the printer respond to sending the email to the printer, but instead of printing the email, it printed an error message, NG #827. I suspect now it may be because the attachment was not the correct file type, .PDF, .docx, .jpg. .tiff and .PNG. At that time, I was simply trying to forward an email as an attachment so I am unsure of the file type and will have to review that when I return to the office.
Thank you.

Thank you. I have reviewed this, but still have the very simple question mentioned above to confirm what this printer is capable of doing and how. See below.
Can a person open the gmail app on their phone, whether it be an android or iphone, and read an email that does not have an attachment, then select to simply forward that email to the printer without using "forward as attachment" and have it produce a printout that looks exactly as if they were sitting at their computer printing the email?
