ImageCLASS MF4890dw - printer stuck in Download Mode.

My printer is from 2014 and worked fine ntil 3/27/25. I am trying to print via my iMac. I have tried turning off and unplugging, and have downloaded the firmware. However, the firmware won't install because Apple says the firmware needs to be updated by the developer. Digging deeper, it appears to have something to do with Apple's transition to 64-bit technology. Can anyone help?

Greetings,

Please turn the printer off and unplug from power.  Now reconnect to power. DO NOT POWER ON.

Find the "Stop" button.  Press and hold the stop button (do not release). Now press the power button, and continue holding the stop button while the printer starts.  Keep the stop button pressed until the printer has fully booted.

If this doesn't work, the printer is likely "bricked".

Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt response. However, this just took me back to the "DOWNLOAD MODE". I take it that this means it's unfixable.

I'm afraid it might be. I don't know of any other way to get the printer to start normally.  You can try reaching out to Canon support, but I'm not sure if he device is still serviceable.  To do so, you will need to register the printer in your MyCanon account.
