imageCLASS MF735Cdw - serial # rejected, can't download firmware to fix error e078-000

Was trying to follow this article but the download center doesn't accept our serial # which begins with WTQ followed by five digits.

I also tried registering the printer online but it too rejects the serial #.

We took a photo of the label and are sure we have this correct.

Printer was manufactured in January 2018.

Greetings,

If your printer is connected to the internet you should be able to upgrade the firmware directly from the printer's LCD.  Just scroll to the right and tap the update firmware icon.  It takes a few minutes, then restarts.  You don't have to enter a serial number, etc.  To resolve your error, you need firmware version v6.02 or later according to this KB.

https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART173904

If you end up needing your serial number, you can log into the remote UI and get it there or grab it from the label on the printer's box if you still have it.

Thanks. This solution was not mentioned in the support article and   would have saved us a couple of hours. But my bad, I had the wrong model # 735 instead of 733.

The LCD update worked and fixed the problem.
