Fix For MF Scan Utility Failures Windows 11 24H2

I have been frustrated by this issue also. I bought a new desktop machine and it immediately updated and installed Win11 24H2 on it. I then installed my Canon software for my printer MF750C and the MF Scan Utility would fail with the message mentioned many times in this thread.

I have installed all the latest updates and including the one Microsoft released 12/10/2024, KB5048667, but none of that made the scanner software work.

Now today I reinstalled just the drivers for the MF750C under the Imaging devices in Device Manager, and it started working, and has kept working as I think I have tested after rebooting at least 10 times today.

So bring up Device Manager, (right click on the Start Menu), expand Imaging devices, then right click your device, mine says Canon MF750C Series, (2 times). Now this part is important as I checked it twice and if you don't Disable the device first it doesn't seem to work right. So right click on the device and click Disable Device. My MF750C is listed twice here in Imaging devices, so be sure to Disable Device for both of them. Then right click on it again and select Browse my computer for drivers, then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. Your printer/scanner should be in the list, make sure it is selected, then click Next.

Mine then came back and said Windows has successfully updated your drivers. Make sure you do this for BOTH of the devices listed there, at least if it lists two of them. Windows does say it updated the device driver. I'm not sure what it did for sure but it did something.

It doesn't say you have to, but I then rebooted my machine before I tried the software, but then the MF Scan Utility works! It has kept working for 2 days now, and after many reboots!

I don't know if this will work for everyone but so far it has worked for me. I have no ideas what made it work today. Microsoft and Canon, (and apparently HP and Brother), need to talk and get this resolved for people!

Merry Christmas!

Hello Dale and shadowsports,

Hoorah, joy in the house!

Worked! I tried browsing to the folders and drivers that I previously downloaded, so in my haste did not manage to determine which driver was the one that made my Imageclass MF242DW canner and Scansoft app start working again, but it is now working!

This is a screen shot of the driver properties from the device manager > imaging devices > right click on my printer/scanner and then selecting properties.

REBOOTED, and checked the scan app and it worked!

Thank you!

Happy Holiday!

Aloha!

So glad this is working for people. I have been getting confirmations from people on the answers.microsoft.com site also.  It is open there with the title WINDOWS HOME 11 conflict with CANON MF SCAN UTILITY.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Dale, like others, thanks so much for posting this fix for my MF642cdw after a reboot.  One would hope that Canon and MS would make a wider post of your fix since they both don't seem to be very interested in resolving the problem otherwise.

This device disable and driver reinstall did not work for me.  I installed W11 24H2 yesterday (dumb idea) and this morning I noticed that Canon Scan Utility stopped connecting to my MF720C multi-device.  I have an Ethernet connection to my network with fixed IP address (probably does not matter).  I tried reinstalling the scan utility (same version I already had) and that did not help.  I activated W11 Windows Fax and Scan app and I CAN connect to the scanner that way.  Feeder works with the MS App.  The App will not print a PDF on initial scan, but I can use the App's Print function to create a PDF.  So, I will wait to see what kind of fix becomes available.

Worked for me (MF644C); thank you! Note that the reboot was necessary for me; ScanGear wouldn't run until I did that.

Thanks for the tip, it seems like it may have brought me closer, but still having issues.  Using the DR-C125 scanner on a new PC that was preloaded with Windows 11 24H2, so rollback is not an option.  The device manager did not recognize the scanner as an Imaging device until after I ran the suggested sequence and ran the original setup to get the drivers loaded to the PC.  Now the device finally shows in the Device Manager as an Imaging Device, but still does not show as connected in COT or the Windows Scan Utility. Ran the RegistryFix from Canon, says no problem, retried the driver update and it says it's the best driver available.  Anyone find a next step for this that might be needed?  Did reboot each time, thanks!

I've tried all this stuff, just does not work for me.  Scan Utility not working.  I really don't want to roll back from 24H2 as this brings other kinds of risks.  Wish Canon/MS would fix this.  I suspect this is a MS issue and not Canon.
