I have a Canon MX922 printer/scanner.
Recently, I tried to integrate the printer with my new iMac. I attached a Thunderbolt adapter to my printer’s USB cable. At first everything went well, but, since my printer and my previous iMac were generations old, I thought I’d upgrade my computer with the latest drivers for my MX922. I went to the product support page for my printer, downloaded and installed the shown drivers and SW. Since then, it seems like everything has gone wrong.
My computer cannot find the USB/Thunderbolt connection.
It says it’s Kind is AirPrint and the Driver is 4.0.
My Canon Quick Menu does not contain any options for my printer or my scanner.
(1) Is there a correction for this? Can I find more suitable drivers?
(2) Can I go back to my old drivers?
Your suggestions will be appreciated.

To get your Canon MX922 back online with your 2026 iMac, you need to clear out the old driver and manually add the printer using the correct CUPS/AirPrint driver rather than the generic AirPrint fallback. [
Step-by-Step Fix
1. Remove the old printer from your Mac:
Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners (or System Preferences on older macOS).
Select the Canon MX922 in the list.
Click the Remove Printer (-) button at the bottom and confirm.
Repeat this if there are any duplicate profiles.
2. Re-add the printer correctly:
Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax (+).
When the device list appears, look for your MX922 in the "Name" column.
Crucial Step: Under the Kind column, ensure it says Bonjour Multifunction (or Canon MX920 series).
Do not select "AirPrint" or "Secure Airprint" in the Use dropdown at the bottom, as this causes communication errors with the MX922. Instead, manually select the Canon MX920 series driver.
Click Add.
3. If you still have scanning issues:
If you can print but the Canon IJ Scan Utility is failing, ensure the updated scanning software is correctly installed. You can download the MX920 series scanner driver and the Canon IJ Scan Utility from the official Canon PIXMA MX922 Support Page.
4. Power cycle:
If your Mac still fails to communicate, unplug the printer and your wireless router for 15 seconds, plug them back in, and restart your iMac.

Hi DerrickL,
Thanks for your detailed instructions. First, perhaps, I wasn't clear. This isn't a wireless communication problem. I use a USB connector from iMac to MX922. I followed your instructions. There are still problems. My Quick Menu still doesn't show any options for Printer or Scanner, so I can't scan or choose print options. I can't find a scanner driver on the MX922 support page. I downloaded and reinstalled Quick Menu. I downloaded, but did not install the CUSP driver. Let me show you the screens in process.
Does it appear I did something wrong? Any further suggestions would still be appreciated.
