Canon Print Properties for type 4 drivers?

After the PrintNightmare fiasco, my organization started using type 4 printer drivers almost exclusively. Type 4 drivers aren't the best for copy machines because you get generic Microsoft printer properties and can't select things like stapling and 3-hole punch. Xerox solved the problem by releasing the Xerox Desktop Print Experience which, after installing, gives you Xerox printer properties instead of Microsoft when using type 4 drivers. We are starting to lease our copy machines from a local company that uses Canon copiers and so far I have been unable to find a program similar to the Xerox program that will give me Canon print properties using type 4 drivers. If we use type 3 drivers, then every time the driver updates we have to go around and provide admin rights to update the driver. Is there a program similar to Xerox Desktop Print Experience for Canons? Seems like a no-brainer. Thanks

I'm using a IR adv C5550 and am running into the same issue.  I cannot find type 4 drives on the web for any of the canon printers we have deployed in our environment.  Where can I find a generic type 4 canon driver that should work for most products?  If a customer needs more features in their print I'll manually install type 3 drivers for them, but most people I work with just need to print simple word documents and such.

Thanks for posting!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, Canon does not provide direct support for imageRUNNER series products, but your dealer will be able to help you!

If you don't have a dealer, please call us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) and we will be happy to provide you with the names of dealers who are in your area!

Could you provide direct support for generic/universal type 4 drivers that should work with most Canon printers?  we have more than just the IR adv devices in our environment.

The model is kind of beside the point - we have 4 or 5 different models of Canon copiers all using the Canon Generic PCL6 V4 driver. When they want to staple of hole punch, they can't because that isn't an option in the basic Microsoft printer properties clients get when using a type 4 driver. As I said in the original post, Canon needs a program like Xerox provides wherein you can get Canon printer properties using a type 4 driver.

Where did you find that v4 driver?  I can't seem to find it anywhere....

It may have been supplied by the company we lease our copiers from - I'll ask around. I like how on Canon's site, when you search for drivers, under "type" it just says "drivers". Nice job. Yet another thing I dislike about Canon.
