sx700hs Display goes dark when camera turned to portrait position - intermittent

Sometimes when sx700hs camera is turned from landscape to portrait position the display darkens and becomes unusable in sunlight, pictures Taken when display is dark are fine. This is intermittent and has hardly happened at all indoors or in darker conditions. Camera was purchased in North Chile to replace a damaged camera, I am no longer there so cannot return to the store. Any assistance is appreciated.

Check your settings for the LCD brightness control. Automatic is a good setting to start or max brightness when outdoors.

It's intermittent, and only happening in sunlight, because that's when you're wearing your polarized sunglasses.  Take them off, or get non-polarized sunglasses.
