SX280 - battery life shooting video

I apologize to the forum for mixing two different problems.  They are unrelated.

Problem #1:  User error.  I thought I was using a class 6 SD card but I was wrong. The yellow "!" indicates a pathologically slow card.  Upgrading to a class 10 resolved this problem.

Problem #2: UNRESOLVED.  Red battery indicator comes on prematurely.  On a fresh charge, it'll turn red after recording for a couple of minutes.  On a partially drained battery, it turns red immediately upon entering movie mode or pressing the record button.  Turn the camera off and then right back on in "still" mode and it shows full charge and works fine ... until trying to shoot video.  I have not precisely measured recording times but it'll record for at least 20 (maybe 30?) minutes while flashing red.

The SX600HS appears to be Canon dumbing down the 260 and the 280sx. The removal of manual shooting modes

is placing this camera in the same league as the Sony WX300. My 260 with its manual modes and no problems with video recording looks even better. I was hoping for a sx290 (improved 280 with the video problem resolved)

As  the SX260 is being nentioned,  would anyone recommend that I  return the SX280 ( with the well known issue and not particularly good pics) for the SX260???
Or go with SX510???  Or return and wait for the new SX600 ??? They all seem to use the same batteries and I have several extra.
I have 3 weeks to decide, so far I have seen better pics in the LIVE  mode than the AUTO of the SX280.

My firmware version is 1-14.0.1.0 after updated it to 1.0.2.0 from 1.0.1.0.

1-14.0.1.0 doesn't appear even to be a firmware version any idea what 1-14.0.1.0 is??

Mine came with that 1-14.0.1.0.   I wanted to keep this camera reading all the good stuff but the picture quality is not there( took more than 500 pics and tried all kinds of settings).
The issue with the video ( you need to cover the middle metal pin ( battery) - fix that worked for me),  the fact that only has 12 MP resolution ( the new one coming in March has  16MP like most cameras thses days),  the fact that you cannot charge via USB like the rest, and the average  ( some times below average)  quality of the pictures,,  forced me to send it back.   At the end I have to agree with most here,  it should be recalled and the people that wrote about the great pictures it takes must be expert photographers  or got lucky  🙂  This was my 3rd CANON,

Take a look below the camera where the serial number is!!

The voltage indicated where the serial number is (below the SX280) is 4.3V but the NB-6L battery's nominal is 3.7V !!

Maybe this is the problem??

 A freshly charged Li cell will have about 4.2 to 4.25 volts. Nominal cell voltage is 3.7. Even with a freshly charged battery, 4.25 volts checked with a Fluke multimeter, my camera still exhibits the annoying red battery light and other maladies associated with it. Maybe Canon wrote that on the camera as a "never to exceed" voltage. Don't know, don't care. The camera is a lemon and Canon doesn't seem to care either. Like I've said before when my Canon stuff wears out there will be a different brand in my house.
