At full zoom your camera is capable of 168X !! Its a very powerful camera !
42X at optical zoom alone.
Be sure you have the IS turned on...Image stabilization.
Also make sure you have the Auto Focus Zoom set to On and auto Focus Frame set to on too...those will assist you in seeing when to shoot.
I think those are available in Auto shooting moe but if not try P mode, Program mode which is the same as Auto mode but allows you to make changes to settings if you want...but you dont have to ! Think of it like ajustable Auto mode.
For extreme zoom without a tripod and a remote shutter switch its not easy to get clear pictures but not impossible.
