PowerShot SX740 HS Flash not working and warranty coverage

My daughter bought a NEW Canon PowerShot SX740 HS (silver) from Walmart online in late June. It was working beautifully for a little more than 1 week and then the flash stopped working. If in manual mode, you can make it pop up but it doesn’t flash. We have tried all of the resets. We took the battery out, charged it, reset it to factory settings, changed the modes and lighting to force it to engage, and still it fails to flash. On top of that, when we try to register the product, it says it can’t locate the serial number. We specifically bought it new to avoid issues with support and even bought an extended warranty from Walmart, but that doesn’t take effect until after the Manufacturer’s warranty has expired. I seem to be going around in circles on the Canon website trying to find help. Has anyone had this issue with the flash or registration problem? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!
