PowerShot SX70 HS Playback issues: photo numbers missing, vertical pics are sideways

I stupidly lent my camera to a friend and he must have messed around with my settings. I'm now having issues with the photo playback. When I used to press the playback button (20) the photos just taken had numbers displayed that showed the total number of photos taken and the number of the order in which each photo was taken (1/45 or 9/12, etc.) Also, if I had taken a photo by holding the camera vertically instead of horizontally, the playback showed the vertical photo horizontally as per usual with the numerical information in the usual position.. Now photos taken holding the camera vertically are displayed "on their side." I will be grateful for any help that will tell me how to reset the camera to my original preferences. I consulted the camera's manual, but couldn't find any information that specifically discusses these issues and I'm not going to just fool around with settings like my friend obviously did. (And that's the last time I'll lend the camera to anybody!)

I've used the SX70 HS daily for six years using my original modified defaults. With that kind of use, procedures often become habitual and no longer thought out. (As a professional composer of "classical" music, I experience similar things with my complex studio electronics.)  IFor me, it's necessary when composing or taking photographs to concentrate on the results, not the techniques. All of this is to excuse MY stupidity about the camera settings and no fault of the person I lent the camera to, even though he was the person who changed the settings for unknown reasons. So I never even thought about what buttons I was customarily pressing when before/while/after taking photos. So: "Duh on me!" LOL Your reply makes it obvious that it was my automatic use of the camera that made it so difficult to return the viewing screen to what it was before I lent the camera to a family member. It's not unusual for me to take hundreds of photos every day in an environment with very quickly changing light, wind speed, colors, visibility, etc. and it's necessary for me to be able to do everything quickly. So those automatic actions—although very useful and necessary—came back to "bite me in the _ _ _."  I'm very grateful for your help in allowing me to get back to my customary photography practices.

Do you have an option to reset the settings?

I already tried that before posting my inquiry—going to Reset Camera and the clearing all  the Basic Settings. No change. So then I cleared all the Custom Controls. Still no change and no viewing screen display of the number of photos taken and the relationship between the photo on the viewing screen and the total number of photos on the camera.which the camera provided before (4/63 for example or anything else)—just the viewing screen with the photo and no information. I have no idea why this is happening; all the other functions of the camera are working well and the camera hasn't been damaged in any way.

Try pressing the info button when reviewing images
