PowerShot ELPH 100 HS - lens assembly stuck in the 'out' position

My PowerShot ELPH 100 HS has its  lens assembly stuck in the 'out' position - is there a 'fix' for this..??

Okay, this is a log shot to try: (Assuming you turned the camera off but the lense failed to retract) Press the PLAYBACK button, wait a few seconds and press it again. What happens?

No improvment but I do get a 3-line message that says:

Lens error

Will shut down automatically

Restart camera

...have shut down - even removed battery but the lens assembl is sill in the 'out' position...
