I've had this camera for a while, and it's a good one. Now it won't open. When I put fresh batteries in and press the on/off button, the lens cover only opens part way. Can I fix this myself? I really can't afford to replace my camera. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot A540 IS is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

Here is a link on how to dissemble the front cover on the A590. I don't know if it helps you, but may give you some ideas if you want to try to fix it yourself.
