I was not aware that any Canon camera bodies could date timestamp photos.  Are you referring to the EXIF data stored in the image file.

Yep.  At least some of their point-and-shoot models had this.  I cannot remember the exact model of mine that I had about ten years ago now.  I do remember though that it was a bit easy to trigger accidentally.  I once ended up with timestamps on a particular set of images as a result of fumbling in the dark to adjust some setting at the time.
